Frontier &  Spectrum....     Who are these guys?

5/31/2016

The name, Time Warner is on it's way out.  Charter just dropped $79 Billion on TW and another $10.4 Billion on Bright House, another regional cable player. I'm really not sure how Charter pulled this off after the FCC denied Comcast from doing the same thing. The new entity will be called Spectrum.

About the same time, Frontier has also bought Verizon's FIOS division. I had heard years ago that "If your neighborhood doesn't already have FIOS, it won't be getting it". That's because Verizon allegedly decided not to invest any further in this division. I have heard about quite a few unhappy Frontier customers who feel that they got the short end of the stick.

Obviously, shareholders love these mega mergers for good reason. My question is has there been any mergers that have benefitted consumers? I'm not sure either one of these will but time will tell.

Old School Surfing Meets New School GPS Technology

I've had a few of my friends using and swearing about how good GPS devices are for surfing. One in particular is the Trace device. The other is the RipCurl Search GPS watch. As I ride a different board nearly every day of the week, the watch idea seemed like the best for me. Up until now, I have owned Rolexes, and other fine Swiss Automatics. While these timepieces have intricate movements and value, they only give you the time and the day's date.  Ripcurl's watch gives you this, plus the tides for over 1300 surf locations. If that wasn't enough, it's designed to record the statistics of each surfing session. So far, I have had one 56 minute session, caught 13 waves, covered 2.5 miles paddling and surfing. It also revealed that I went 457' on the longest. The GPS coordinates should actually help me determine exactly where to place myself in the lineup to get the best waves.

You simply pair the watch to access the GPS satellite. You then pair it with your iPhone via BlueTooth. Ripcurl's FREE application gives you a cloud that you can upload your data (see above) to. It can also be easily shared on social media sites like FaceBook with the press of a button. It's obviously too soon to review this device after one surf session. I will be taking this device to Mainland Mexico next week and figure to work up some pretty impressive stats if I am lucky.  I will update this when I return...

There are some amazing deals out there on SmartPhones. Starting May 4, qualifying postpaid T-Mobile customers can get a $150 rebate check from Samsung when they get a Samsung GS6, GS6 edge, GS6 edge+ or Note5 on EIP or pay Full Retail Price.
  • Note: The GS7 is not eligible for this offer.

There has never been a better time to buy an Apple iPhone. The new iPhone SE has the same smaller screen size as the 5s, but with the camera and processor of the new 6s line. The regular iPhone 6 models have dropped $100 each and are a great value as well.

Dr WIreless also has both new and used iPhone and Androids. Our pricing is generally below the cost that stores sell them for.
