Had the Santa Clara County Fire Department consulted Dr Wireless, they could have avoided having their internet access throttled at 25GB per user while fighting the recent Mendocino fires. This is a standard practice of Verizon's that the person who set this account up should have known about. There is quite a bit of controversy about this and the SCC Fire Department is blaming the recent reversal of Net Neutrality for emboldening Verizon. Had the SCC Fire Department consulted Dr Wireless, they would have been told to expect throttling to occur at exactly 25GB per month, per user with Verizon. It's rather ironic that Verizon reveals how limited their "Unlimited" plans really are when the representative tries to up-sell you to a 50GB or 100GB per month, per user much more costly plan. Oh, and what jackass at Verizon actually thinks it's a good idea for the Fire Department to have to call in and ask Verizon to "lift data restrictions" on an "as per emergency basis"? This is the explanation they were given from Verizon management. Call transfer city, I'm guessing.
For this reason, Dr Wireless always recommends our First Responder clients to choose a carrier that offers "essential line service". That means being prioritized over the masses and recognized as a first responder, who requires network access when resources are limited. As most businesses cannot get designated as "first responders", the next best solution is going on any T-Mobile unlimited plan, consumer or business. That's because unlike AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon who throttle 4G speeds down between 22-26GB per user, per month, T-Mobile does not do this until 50GB per user, per month.
Is Your Business Cyber-Secure? According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, 40% of all small businesses eventually experience Cyber crime. Of those 40%, 60% subsequently go out of business. After working for years with large Public Sector, Government, and Fortune 500 clients, it's become apparent to me that it's the small businesses that are in the most danger. All large Corporations and Government entities address these concerns through their Information Technology Managment and legal team. These folks are collectively responsible for network risk assessment, mitigation, and employee Best Practices training. These companies usually also purchase Cyber Liability policies that offer 1st party coverage and 3rd party coverage. The 1st party coverage usually handles the cost to notify all customers of the hack which is a legal requirement. It also addresses PR costs, and possible government regulatory fines. The 3rd party coverage protects your business if it is sued because of a hack to a 3rd party. The perfect example of this scenario was the recent Experian hack. T-Mobile had to notify all of their subscribers because Experian, their credit agency partner, was hacked. Remember, it's not just password authentication that is the problem, it's management of passwords, and general employee practices. Cyber security starts when you turn your computer on. Dr Wireless works with Blue Fields Digital, Microsoft. and many others to provide small businesses that do not have their own IT and/or legal team the necessary training. Contact Dr Wireless to schedule a Cyber Security Training Workshop in your office or ours! Ask for details.
